Ever since his American debut album My Aim Is True, Elvis Costello has been categorized as rock's "angry young man." With his recent release Imperial Bedroom, Costello attempts to dispell this image.
Although Costello's lyrical style has changed, his music hasn't lost any of its intensity or passion. Aided by Steve Nieve's elegant piano orchestrations, Costello has come to an almost "middle-of-the-road" musical style, made evident in such songs as "Man Out of Time" and "Almost Blue."
For better or for worse, Elvis Costello definitely shows a more refined and mature style; one that maintains his position as one of rock's most notable and talented performers.
