(Sorry if this isn't the proper way to respond to your question ... I'm just editing this directly, because I didn't see a different way.)

A tiny percentage of the lyrics have been printed wrong since the very beginning (even on the album sleeves). Unfortunately, they are wrong at the "official" site, too, because nobody ever fixed them. Having listened carefully to these songs hundreds of times each since they came out, in multiple versions, and discussing them with fellow fanatics and musicians, and knowing that EC would not make these simple mistakes, it is 99.9% certain that the mistakes actually originated with the person who transcribed them originally and were perpetuated for decades. When it's less certain than 99.9%, I do not dare touch a lyric (i.e, there are many other minor tweaks to make that I refrain from, just in case).

Bottom line: I have no perfect proof, but I would hope careful listening to the songs would validate that each of these tiny tweaks is actually a restoration of Elvis's original lyric and a correction to an old trascribing error.

I think it might make sense to start a thread in the forum, and ask there if anyone hears these lyrics as you do.
