JohnH,

I noticed you had this show (1993-03-18 NYC Town Hall (Brodsky Q) sbd).  For some reason "juliet letters" came to the top of the play list and I had heard that the Town Hall show was excellent.  Would you be willing to share?  Thanks!  Brent Treetopflyer 13:32, 20 June 2007 (CDT)
:: Brent,
::I'd be glad to if I hadn't lost it in a hard drive crash (along with 40 other shows).  Hopefully it'll come around again soon, and when it does, I'll be sure to get you a copy before my next crash. == Bruce Interview and DVDs ==

There is an excellent interview on the Fender guitars website with Bruce Thomas that I thought you might like to know about. It can be found at: http://fender.com/news/index.php?display_article=198

Also, I don't know if anyone was aware of this because I haven't seen any information about it, but Rhino just re-released The Juliet Letters BBC special and A Case For Song on DVD this month. Amazon didn't even have The Juliet Letters one as being released yet and I found it in Best Buy's music video section. Both have Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtracks and the A Case For Song DVD apparently has six songs not on the original VHS release (although Elvis walks onto the stage with an acoustic guitar, then the camera cuts and he's holding a Les Paul). Here are the links for those:
*The Juliet Letters: http://rhino.com/store/ProductDetail.lasso?Number=971481
*A Case For Song: http://rhino.com/store/ProductDetail.lasso?Number=971482  -- If
::Thanks for the links. The BT interview is a great read.  I remember reading about the TJL and ACFS DVDs on Costello-L.  I guess we'd better make pages for those.  If I start the pages, can you put the tracklists and other info in? -- JohnH 14:48, 12 July 2007 (CDT)

Certianly I'll fill out the information. I would do it all myself but I really don't know how to put in images and all that stuff. I did find that on Amazon they do have nice sized images of both DVD covers (Rhino only has small, sideways ones). I'm ignorant to doing all this formatting. Also, through doing a small amount of research, there are additional songs on A Case For Song, but two songs are missing from the VHS: "Accidents Will Happen" and "Watching The Detectives". This accounts for him coming onto stage with an acoustic and then suddenly having that Les Paul. I guess they must have been short on space and figured everybody's seen them playing those two songs and cut them.

Also, do you have the Italian Memory or This Is Tomorrow boots? I'd love to get them, but I refuse to pay the cost they go for on eBay. -- If

::I do.  I can copy the flac files for both shows to a single dvdr and drop it in the mail. Click on the "email this user" link on the sidebar at left. (I've been wondering if that works.) -- JohnH 10:11, 17 July 2007 (CDT)

Hi John H , Thanks for the comments it was a fantastic night at the Tower Of London. I have got more pictures but didn't want to monopolies the page!
I've aslo posted a couple of clips on You Tube Keep up the good work JR

San Sebastian 2007
Thanks for your comments, John. I still have a lot to learn about this wiki thing...
San Sebastian was a great show, short but very intense. And we got an unexpected Shoo-Ra! The show was entirely filmed by Televisión Española (at least 3 cams) and it will be soon broadcast (maybe just partially). Santi 02:37, 2 August 2007 (CDT)

Hi John... I've been looking for a recording of this show for years. It has some sentimental value. My wife was pregnant with our first child... 2 weeks later, she gave birth. We saw the show with some friends... amazing. It converted her into an EC fan.

I needed no conversion, trust me... I've been a fan since first hearing Elvis on WNEW in New York back in 1978.

Like I said --- I've been trying to find a recording of this show for years. If you can help, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Watching The Detectives Remix
-- Nick Ratcliffe

I am Japanese. English cannot be written well. I'm sorry.
:Yes, it's in here somewhere, but it's only a cut-and-paste from the old page. Just search on Scully or Simpsons and you'll find it. At this point it's probably four years out-of-date. It needs better formatting iirc.  -- JohnH 15:34, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
The original single mix of "Watching The Detectives" includes on "MY AIM IS TRUE" "THE BEST OF ELVIS COSTELLO&THE ATTRACTIONS" of the US Columbia release.
The one that was the remix is collected to the compilations other than them.
When two are compared, the mix of the drum that was the remix is a wider stereo. The keyboard comes near to a right channel, and the guitar comes near to the left. On the original, both are at the center, too. Moreover, Vocal of the remix sounds another effect. As for an original keyboard, the reverbe or more is added. Thank You.  -- Zarank 1 Sep. 2007

Upcoming Allen Toussaint NY dates
John,
John,

Allen has upcoming "brunch" shows at Joe's Pub in NYC on Nov 18th and Dec 16th.  I tried to add these but can't figure out how they go into the table.  I hope this is helpful.  The addition of "related" to the concert schedule is really great.  Thanks -- Jmm
I have been trawling Youtube and similar adding clips to the gigography.  This one is a puzzle:

1984-11-17 Dublin, National Stadium (With T Bone Burnett).
Hi John,

I would also love to get a show from your list but am not sure about how you do it also.

I am looking for 1984-11-17 Dublin, National Stadium (With T Bone Burnett).

I was at the gig and because it was a ripper I bought the bootleg tapes the next day on O’Connell Bridge in Dublin.
I played them to death on a Walkman and then held on to them for twenty-two years, when eventually I got the technology to transfer them to CD. I brought them out and started to play them in the car but before I could back them up or copy them my two-year-old wrecked them by pulling out all of the tape material. I was heartbroken as this concert was one of my top three favourites and more precious as I thought I would not be able to get them again. I was delighted to see your work and hope you can help me replace them.

I will also send you CDs/DVDS and/or money to cover anything.

I need a little background information
Hi JohnH, You seem to be the one who started this wiki and I am an old "regular" Wikipedian on both the German and the English Wikipedias. As a new EC fan (getting to know him better via Diana Krall, Marian McPartland, the Brodsky Quartet, Il Sogno etc.) I wonder if there is a page on this wiki containing information about the philosophy of this Home Page. What is the connection to Wikipedia.org? I'd be grateful for any information here or on my talk page. Thank you. Best wishes from Germany --Hans555 11:48, 13 April 2008 (CDT)

Bossier City was Just Imposters!
Hi John,

I really thought there would be the usual guests for this one, but was even more surprised by a lack of an opening act. I actully missed the first song by looking at the T-shirts too long. I wasn't expecting the 8:00 sharp start.

EC mentioned that it was somewhat difficult to get to Shreveport from Nashville/Memphis (no direct route). He said "we've been through such places as Hope, and Arkadelphia, and seen dead armadillos on the road so now that we know where you are (Bossier City), we'll be back" (this was in mentioning that he's never been there before). I'm guessing sending the other musicians straight to New Orleans was a better bet.

Question for you...

I've got a picture of the ticket stub but don't remember how to get it on the website... Can I just email it to you? -- Darren Courtney

::Yes, thanks.  Or, I put an upload link on the Bossier City page, so you can try that first.  (If you get a warning about file size,

Concert review from the paper:
It has a helpful title page showing precise venue and date.  The only problem is that the venue is California, and the date comes in the same week when EC was playing in London and Cardiff. There is nothing listed in the gigography for this date.

Video clip of Elvis talking the afternoon of May 6 prior to the show at Patrick Sullivan's.
It is possible that he flew seven hours across the Atlantic for this event, then another seven hours straight back again, but it does not sound likely.  Another possibility is that this clip is from the concert at Warner Brothers listed in the gigography on 26 April 1989.  However, the set list for that concert (and the bootleg recording that exists) don't include this song.

There will be an interview feature in the upcoming Sunday's paper from the above interview.
Do we need an "apocrypha" for material to be included in the Wiki where the origins are dubious?

Condemned Man
Hi JohnH,
Thanks for the heads up about the naming question. My practice is to defer to the most recent info available, which is why I initiated the change, but that's been superseded by the official site's reuse of the "Condemned Man" title, so I've undone my change. By the way, I'm still trying to puzzle out why different sources vary on the length of some of the songs on the album, but that's more for my own sensibility than for adding information to the wiki. On the other hand, I haven't noticed any reference here to the Lupe-O-Tone 78s that were pressed as part of the National Ransom promotion. Should this be added to the wiki? I've personally been reluctant to add it as I haven't actually seen even a picture of one yet.

Thanks for editing my post to make it look better; I'm still new at using the wiki style formats. Question: Is there any interest or reason for including now expired contests (not to mention any future ones) in the wiki? I ask because I discovered the Fender info after somehow winning a contest that was in a Lost Highway Records Update.

Elvis plays live for Warner Brothers staff

John,

I have been trawling Youtube and similar adding clips to the gigography. This one is a puzzle:

Youtube

It has a helpful title page showing precise venue and date. The only problem is that the venue is California, and the date comes in the same week when EC was playing in London and Cardiff. There is nothing listed in the gigography for this date.

Do we need an "apocrypha" for material to be included in the Wiki where the origins are dubious?
