40 years on....................
The penultimate show of the U.K. and Ireland tour takes place at the old railway turntable building in Chalk Farm, London where the band ( with Bruce Thomas safely in place) performed a free warm up gig, prior to the 2nd U.S.A. and Canada tour, as a warm up. 3 days after the final gig, the night after this show, Elvis and the band would be performing in Minneapolis and there was consequently no need of any "warm-up" preparations.
There's a little sense of restraint from this recording as though the band are pacing themselves for the last night in the capital and the only slight surprise is a relatively rare outing for Big Tears. Nick Lowe again deputised on bass and get given a token song at the end with Pete again going crazy on the punk thrash of Heart Of The City. It's also apparent that Steve's ability to play along with the bass line on the keyboards helps Nick out, no more noticeably than on Chelsea where the more intricate parts are definitely played in unison or by the keyboards only.
There's a slight cut in the instrumental fade of Miracle Man but otherwise intact. My original cassette has definite speed issues, gradually getting faster so a more meticulous preparation was required to keep this is the correct pitch but is as nothing compared to tomorrows show from the bootleg L.P. Accidents !
