Declan MacManus and Allan Mayes, circa 1972-73.

Allan Mayes and the future Elvis Costello performed together in Liverpool in 1972 and 1973 under the name Rusty.

During this period they wrote the song "Maureen And Dan", which Mayes would later rewrite and record as "Maureen And Sam." (The song "Ghost Train" deals with the same characters, with the male protagonist renamed Stan.)

Today Mayes lives in Austin, Texas, where he works as a covers singer.
