Elvis Costello playing Rialto gig in April
Cathalena E. Burch
Legendary Brit singer-songwriter Elvis Costello is bringing his "Elvis Costello Detour" to the Rialto Theatre in April.
It is possibly the first time he's been to Tucson in generations. As far as folks at the Rialto can determine, Costello's last Tucson show was early in the artist's career, possibly the late 1970s or early 1980s.
He's set to play an intimate show with a screen flashing family photos. It's a personal journey for the singer, who started his musical career in London's mad crazy punk rock pub scene of the early 1970s. Expect to hear an evening of Costello greatest hits, digging deep into his repertoire for those very early songs and his more recent works.
His springtime tour, which also includes a date in Mesa the day before he's at the Rialto on April 9, comes on the heals of the release of his best-selling memoir "Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink." Expect to hear some personal stories, both poignant and funny.
Tickets ($50 to $93) go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at ticketfly.com Presale tickets for Costello fan club members and Rialto members are up for grabs Thursday, Dec. 10.
