Typical Costello

Robert Sly

Elvis Costello and The Attractions
Imperial Bedroom

Elvis Costello, has proved himself as one of this country's leading singer / songwriters since he first burst on the scene in the heady days of punk and new wave.

His unusual vocal style, the quality of his songs and the ability to produce commercial singles without compromise has forged this reputation.

Imperial Bedroom does nothing to alter his status. In fact, it should enhance it.

The album — in typical Costello fashion — features no less than 15 songs, each of which are instantly memorable.

Side two is probably the strongest of this well-produced set.

Songs like "The Loved Ones," "Kid About It" and "Little Savage" are lyrically fascinating and are strengthened by some tight playing from Elvis' backing band The Attractions.

Imperial Bedroom is an exceptional album from a talented artist, who gets better all the time.
