'Tis the season for record stores to prey on mindless consumers with heaps o' boring rare, unreleased, "just-in-time-for-Christmas" conglomeration albums. Fortunately, Out of Our Idiot is an exception (not that you can go wrong with Costello anyway). The album opens on a high note with "Seven Day Weekend," a duet featuring Jimmy Cliff and Costello. Another guest star, Nick Lowe, performs "Baby It's You" with Costello. Several songs are new renditions of ones already on other albums, for example, a fast-paced version of "Blue Chair" and a "twilight version" of "America Without Tears." Both originally were found on the album, King of America. The absolutely beautiful "Imperial Bedroom" can be found on Out of Our Idiot even though it never made it onto the 1982 album Imperial Bedroom. Other songs were never released such as "So Young." Out of Our Idiot is a great choice for anyone, and a major treat for Elvis Costello fans.
