Ask the Globe

Boston Globe

Q. — I had the pleasure of meeting British singer Elvis Costello last year in Providence. He gave me tickets to his Boston concert. In attempting to repay his kindness I sent him, after speaking with the CBS Records publicity office in New York, a beaver top hat in a gentleman's antique leather hat box. I sent the package. via United Parcel Service, to CBS Records for forwarding to Costello. I wonder if he ever received my gift but I don't want him to think me ill-mannered. I am hoping you can find out. — B.C., Cambridge.

A. — A spokesman for CBS Records is certain the hat box and hat were sent to Elvis Costello. If you wish to determine how long it takes him to send thank-you notes, write to Jake Riviera, c/o F Beat, Executive Suite, 6 Horn In., Acton. London, W39NJ.
