Bard of rock 'n' roll begins world tour in U.S.

John Petric

He's not angry, he's touring

Rock 'n' roll's Shakespeare, Elvis Costello, released his 13th album last week, Blood & Chocolate, and is about to begin a world tour with his first U.S. performances in more than two years. He opened a special six-city schedule of multi-night engagements at small theaters yesterday.

With a different show nightly, sets will be drawn from Costello and his Attractions, the Costello Show, the Confederates, solo interludes, mystery guests, request spots and "the Spectacular Spinning Songbook," where audience members will spin a giant wheel to choose among 40 songs for Costello to play.

Costello's schedule is:

Through Sunday, Los Angeles, Beverly Theatre.

Wednesday to Oct. 10, San Francisco, Warfield Theatre.

Oct. 12 to 14, Chicago Riviera, Theatre.

Oct. 16 to 18, Boston, Orpheum Theatre.

Oct. 21 to 25, New York, Broadway Theatre.

Oct. 27 to 29, Philadelphia, Tower Theatre.
