Elvis Costello & Allen Toussaint – "The River In Reverse"

(Verve/Universal, bereits erschienen)

Elvis Costello & Allen Toussaint – "The River In Reverse"

(Verve/Universal, already published)

Madness, finally a new Costello album! Oh, sorry: Again a new Costello album! We are happy to hear our Elvis is still too, but now I may say quite that he recently published a great many, perhaps too many albums. Quite in contrast to Frank Black, who would take slow even someone who keeps him from permanent disk publishing, Costello is dedicated to but the really essential things: "The River In Reverse" did Elvis with the R & B producer and arranger Allen Toussaint together, his house lost in the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Toussaint (on piano), Costello (guitar, vocals) and the Imposters with Steve Nieve play on the Hammond organ here a few Toussaint classics, an Elvis song (" the River In Reverse ") and a few newer Toussaint/Costello collaborative compositions like the great" The Sharpest Thorn ". Warning: Toussaint's warm, flexible voice you hear is actually only in "Who's Gonna Help Brother Get Further?", Which Costello vocals are clear on all remaining pieces of this very good album in the foreground.
