Elvis Costello to perform at Hoyt Sherman Place
Matthew Leimkuehler
English rock 'n' roll staple Elvis Costello is set to appear at Hoyt Sherman Place this October.
The show, part of Costello's "Detour" tour, is scheduled for Oct. 6 at the Sherman Hill venue. Tickets go on sale at noon on June 24 and range in cost from $55 to $95.50. Tickets can be purchased via the Hoyt Sherman box office, online at ticketmaster.com or by phone.
Costello, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003, brings the "Detour" to Des Moines after the release of his 2015 memoir, Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink. Costello is known for songs such as the 1978 number "Pump It Up" and 1977 release "Alison," and is set to appear at Hoyt Sherman after a scheduled performance in Cedar Rapids on Oct. 3 and Omaha on Oct. 4.
"This October, expect the same 'disarmingly revealing' and 'uproariously funny' (L.A. Times) performances as Costello plays his best known songs and selected favorites with just a piano and guitar, all in front of a giant television set projecting family photos, mysteries, mottos and other mischief," a news release stated.
Georgia-based roots rock band Larkin Poe is set to open the show.
