Elvis meets Sam and Dave

I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down / Girls Talk

Frank Chmielewski

So the man painted a racist by a sensationalistic press covers a Sam and Dave R & B tune. Could be the dance tune of the year, it's that good. Almost wasn't released when WEA bought Radar records, leaving Costello a potential professional-plaintiff like the Spruce. All is well now, "Falling" being released on the infantile F-beat Records, a label fathered by El's manager, Jake Riviera. On the B-side, his own "Girl's Talk" is splendidly spat by the big-E, more menacing than Dave Edmund's rendition. (Incidentally, Edmund's new single is "Boy's Talk," and the soon to be released on F-beat Costello album is Get Happy) Could Elvis Costello be this year's Elvis Costello?
