Elvis Costello

Evening Herald

When Elvis comes to town nothing else matters. After two cancellations, the great man's promised return comes tomorrow night when he plays the National Stadium.

This will be Elvis's first visit since a devastating performance at the same venue last year. That was preceded by a not-too-happy appearance at Macroom Festival.

Costello's contribution to popular music over the last few years is well known: he is one of the few to survive punk/new wave revolution with credibility intact and reputation enhanced.

His deceptively simple songs are, in fact, caustic comments which always work and always it their target. Elvis Costello is on a par with John Lennon in the songwriter stakes. He should not be missed.
