Elvis Costello revisa en clave de jazz sus éxitos

'My flame burns blue' es el último disco del británico y grabado en directo junto a la big band Metropole Orkest

El músico Elvis Costello mezcla temas antiguos y nuevos con un sonido más cercano al jazz en My flame burns blue, un disco grabado en directo junto a la "big band" Metropole Orkest.

Según la palabras del propio Costello, el disco My flame burns blue, que incluye una versión de Il sogno -su primer trabajo orquestal de larga duración-, explica dónde ha estado "estos últimos doce años cuando no tenía una guitarra eléctrica en las manos".

Este popular músico británico ha pasado por géneros como el rock, el punk, el country, el reggae o la música clásica, en una carrera que se inició en 1977, año en el que publicó el disco My aim is true.

A éste siguieron Get happy!! (1980), King of America (1986), o Spike (1989), y, más recientemente, For the stars (2001), When I was cruel (2002), North (2003), o The delivery man (2004).

El escenario escogido para grabar este último disco fue el Festival de Jazz del Mar del Norte en La Haya (2004) y, su acompañante, la "big-band" de jazz Metropole Orkest, que interpretó junto al músico antiguos éxitos como Watching The Detectives, Almost Blue o Can You Be True?, junto a otros más nuevos como Cluband, Episode of Blonde o Speak Darkly My Angel.

En 2004 Costello publicó la suite Il Sogno, una adaptación musical de El sueño de una noche de verano de Shakespeare realizada por encargo del ballet italiano Aterballetto en el que predominan los ritmos de jazz y sonidos impresionistas, y que supuso su primer trabajo orquestal de larga duración.

Aunque esta suite ya se editó en 2004, Costello la adjunta ahora en formato de bonus CD junto a My flame burns blue, en una versión reducida de 45 minutos y 18 cortes.
