The Spanish soprano Sylvia Schwartz debut in Paris with rock singers Sting and Elvis Costello in Welcome to the Voice, by Steve Nieve, an experimental rock opera that opens today at the Parisian Theatre du Chatelet. For the Spanish artist, formed in London, Madrid and Berlin, female protagonist of the piece, this is not her first starring role, as at 26 years and three working on Opera Berlin with Daniel Barenboim and other large teachers. Yes it is, however, a role completely rigorous unusual trajectory " since the four or five year old wanted to be an opera singer." The first surprise was she then decided to share her "voice" and dramatic passion with the leader of the group The Police and Costello after auditioning for Vespro della Beata Vergine by Claudio Monteverdi , who will perform in January at the Châtelet. "It was, she recalled hearing a strange" in which he did sing a lot more than usual, to finally propose a show that has opened the door to a universe "oblivious."

The team of this opera, in which each retains its musical, lyrical or log rocker, includes the singer of the British group Fiction Plane Joe Sumner, the sopranos Anna Gabler and Sonya Yoncheva, and mezzo-soprano Marie -Ange Todorovicth with Muriel Teodori stage director and musical Wolfgang Doerner. "It is as if I had turned on a light," Sylvia Schwartz summarised.

Sting and Costello said, "sing songs" and are close to the stage 'otherwise', 'play much with the singing and especially with the rhythms' and 'more freedom' is also taken to address the public. At his side, for five nights, the soprano will be Lilly singer whose voice opera Check a metalworker (Sting), who is also madly in love with her, despite the efforts of the police commissioner (Costello) by him away fine singer.

Accustomed, like everyone else, to see these celebrities rock " as if they were real" alone "were living in the magazines', the protagonist of Welcome to the Voice says "pinch" sometimes to believe it's happening to him. Curiosa confession of an artist who clearly looks set to be one of the great figures of Spanish poetry of the century.

The voice says, "it is like a gift that I've dropped from heaven" and could lose 'tomorrow'; fortunate, "a gift from God" to "share with as many people as you can" until the day you leave to have her.
