Elvis Costello and the Imposters

The Tabernacle, Atlanta

Jayna Hoffacker

Mesmerising performance

As far as the show goes, it was amazing. I missed him the last time he played at The Tabernacle because I didn't have the money for a ticket, but I am glad I had it this time. I had to go by myself because none of my friends could go, but it was well worth it. While they didn't play my all time favorite song ("I Want You"), I still cannot find anything negative to say about the show.

The highlight of the night had to have been their closing number. I didn't know what song it was at the time, but I see from the setlist that was posted on your site that it was "The Scarlet Tide." The thing that made it so amazing was that he closed with an acoustic number, I've never seen a band do that before. They almost always close with whatever single was their biggest hit, but not Elvis. Hell, he didn't even sing the whole thing through the mic. It was absolutely mesmerizing, about half way through the song the rest of the band just stopped playing and Elvis walked over to the side of the stage and just sang. And everyone just shut up, there was absolute silence and you could hear him perfectly. Granted, The Tabernacle used to be a church and it's got great acoustics, but not everyone could do that. Your audience has got to have a lot of respect for you to just shut up and let you sing. I can't even come up with any words that would do it justice, you just had to be there. To have 2500 people be that enthralled by your performance you've got to be something special.
