40 years and a bit on ................................................... Another fresh transfer from a JEMS 1st generation cassette for you with a bit of tweaking especially on the first 45 minutes or so of the cassette in terms of pitch to get it near to the correct level. There are a few little glitches in this too both at the start in the opening "Just A Memory" and in "Watching The Detectives" and "I Can't Stand Up". After The Attractions appearance, the usual starters fall into place and then Elvis makes the first of two references to previous concerts by introducing "Red Shoes" as a song they played when they first played at the Orpheum. "Black Sails In the Sunset" is again introduced as being too new to make the new album ("Trust") and still features Steve's beautiful accompaniment. "Slippin' And Slidin'" occurs somewhat earlier than it had appeared in previous shows and lets the band let their musical hair down a lot. "Clubland" is dedicated to all the people who came to see them at The Paradise club and Elvis makes mention of the seats being nailed down there, no doubt to discourage any throwing of chairs at the performers! Elvis strays away from the melody in a couple of songs, with a definite variation on "You wouldn't even like me" in "Big Tears" and Martin Belmont enters the fray straight after this in time for "New Lace Sleeves". For once, it's Steve's piano that kicks off "I've Been Born Again" and unusually, Bruce is very subdued in this performance of the medley. Steve also shines in "He's Got You" with grandiose octave notes in this. "High Fidelity" and "Need Your Love So Bad" also feature somewhat changed vocal lines in places and the first encore features Glenn Tilbrook on the vocal duet of "From A Whisper To A Scream" (and not a scram as the naming seems to be on the FLAC files - sorry). The final encore is extended as Elvis seems happy to play on for the Boston folk. Once again this JEMS is an upgrade on my own higher generation cassette and just needed some removal of a few clicks and pitch adjustment. Many thanks as always to JEMS and the original recorder.
