40 years on .............................. no apologies for reseeding this show originally put up in 2007 by John 234 and again last year by psychocaniac but this is a reseed with the pitch adjusted to the correct pitch needing a drop of around 34 cents. I've actually again used the FLAC files taken from the Elvis Costello wiki and merged a couple of the crowd noise and rejoined the segue of "Backstabbers" and "King Horse" if only to preserve the consistency I've used from the start. This is another great quality recording - I'm always impressed by the concerts I've seen at Sheffield and can number the last 6 shows as among my personal favourites and this doesn't disappoint even if I wasn't there on this occasion. The clarity of the recording enables one to notice the difference in the guitar sounds and Elvis is pictured throughout this tour predominantly playing his Gibson ES 335 rather than his usual Jazzmaster and the tone is very distinct on this recording. "And In Every Home" starts with Steve's baroque introduction which sets the theme as he plays such a perfect alternative accompaniment compared to the glorious orchestration on the recorded version. We also get "One Way Out" segment in place of the quote from "Pontiac Blues" towards the end of "Watching The Detectives". Again Bruce seems a little subdued until "Man Out Of Time" when he plays a roaming bass line through the lines "He's Got A Mind Like A Sewer......" Still the peak of the ensemble playing comes nearer the end with the contrast between the astounding blues feel The Attractions achieve in "Danger Zone", the pomp of "Peace, Love And Understanding", the delicacy of "Shipbuilding", the ominous threat of "Big Sister's Clothes", the thunder of "Radio Radio" and the tenderness of "Clowntime Is Over" seems to me to represent the pinnacle of their ensemble playing - not for the first or last time thankfully.
