'Talking Heads' cancels concert here Thursday
Eugene Register-Guard
Talking Heads, one of America's most highly acclaimed new rock groups, has canceled its Thursday night concert in Eugene.
The cancellation was caused when lead singer David Byrne apparently collapsed from physical exhaustion and was hospitalized after a concert in London last Thursday, according to Les Schwartz, an artists' representative for Warner Bros. Records in Los Angeles.
As a result, Talking Heads' entire West Coast tour has been canceled, he said. It will be rescheduled later.
Talking Heads had been expected to share the bill in Eugene with Elvis Costello and the Aristocrats. A concert will be held and Costello is still expected to appear, according to concert promoter Rick Ohlson of Big Towne Productions.
A replacement for Talking Heads has not yet been signed, although it will probably be a local group, Ohison said.
