They say 10,000 Elvis fans can't be wrong. Now we know it's true: they begged for him to make up with The Attractions and look what happened. You guessed it, Elvis Costello finally delivers the album we have all been waiting for — complete with the old band, the sound and the old sarcasm. Brutal Youth (Warner Bros.) sounds like it was recorded years ago, thanks to Mitchell Froom, who has a knack for these things.
As with most Elvis records, a bad song cannot be found. The track "13 Steps Lead Down" is played on MTV and the radio, but songs like "My Science Fiction Twin" and "All The Rage" truly deserve airplay. The tune "Clown Strike" is right up there with "Peace, Love and Understanding" as one of my all-time favorite Elvis songs.
It all sounds so good.you wonder why he ever dumped the Attractions in the first place. If you thought Declan had lost it in the past couple of years, this record will change your mind permanently. It's the same Elvis you grew up with, except he's meaner. Beauty.
