McManus on the move

Michael Heatley

Elvis Costello has signed to Warner Brothers — and that's of interest for two reasons. First, it's the first time he's forsaken manager Jake Riviera, whose Stiff, F-Beat and Demon/Imp labels he's graced ever since his vinyl debut. And second, he becomes the first major signing to Warners' British division since the U.K. company split in two with the aim of promoting homegrown talent to better advantage. (Ed. Note: Costello has also signed to Warners in the U.S.) Expect other major acts to follow his lead.
