Elvis Costello

Gerry Stevenson

Another hectic and successful year for Elvis Costello producing 'The Special Aka' album, touring, with The Attractions, in Europe and Australia and, alone, in America, recording Goodbye Cruel World which is, as somebody said, not just a great album but a great Elvis Costello album. Expect to hear some of the latter and many of his and our former favourites when he returns to this fair city with the Attractions on 29 September. His last two National Stadium concerts were classics so absolutely no absences tolerated without a medical cert. Accept no imposters.

An added attraction, if one is necessary, will be the presence of Gaelic punsters the Pogues. This cross between the Dubliners and the Sex Pistols have, literally, made quite a name for themselves in the dark streets of London. "Poor Paddy," "The Old Triangle" and "The Band Played Waltzing Mathilda" are featured in their set and singer Shane MacGowan's vocals have been compared with those of the late Luke Kelly.
