Keyboard Jungle
Debut album from Steve Nieve
Beer Davies
On October 7th Demon Records release the debut solo album by keyboards virtuoso Steve Nieve. Followers of Elvis Costello will recognise Steve as the spindly dervish-like figure hunched over the workmanlike set of keyboards to Elvis' right producing a never-ending cascade of solos, intricate 3-second fills, and surging wall-of-sound crescendos that shape The Attractions unique sound.
Admirers of Steve's extrovert style and virtuosity will not be disappointed with his album. The inventiveness and sheer panache that he injects into the many styles he covers elevates it above the usually mundane treadmill of instrumental albums and besides making obvious his rich classical training it illustrates his affection for and capacity to absorb and transpose every conceivable style as well. He is after all, Britain's most accomplished and sought-after rock 'n' roll pianist.
Keyboard Jungle was recorded digitally in one straight session with no overdubs and was produced by Colin Fairley. Steve will of course be playing his part to the full on the upcoming Elvis Costello tour, but meanwhile savour the delights of Steve Nieve at probably his most expressive with this his own album.
