Elvis Costello always an attraction
Kitchener-Waterloo Record
Extract:
Mighty Like a Rose is no exception, keeping the [Elvis Costello] tradition very much alive. That tradition is one of experimentation and intelligence, occasionally of failure and enigma. Ever since the release of 1979's Armed Forces, arguably his most consistent and powerful album, Costello has seemed incapable of playing to anything approaching a formula, a fact that has guaranteed his continuing critical success. It was no coincidence, surely, that Paul McCartney chose Costello as the only viable songwriting replacement for John Lennon, a collaboration that sparked both artists' last albums.
