The singer in Lecce for "Negroamaro"

Ethnic rhythms and Mina in Costello's rock

English via Google Translate

Guitar and glasses, as well as that unmistakable melancholy expression, are the salient features of Elvis Costello, who plays tonight's concert in Lecce for the first leg of his Italian mini tour, three dates that will bring him tomorrow to Caserta and on Friday to Cagliari. For the debut of the London-based musician has chosen the "Negroamaro, a survey of migrant cultures" event, which is the intersection of Salento styles and trends in his thread.

In his own way, Costello is also a successful example of the mixing of genres, as evidenced by the eclecticism performed in a career twenty years and also as evidenced by the new and, "When I was cruel" : a return to rock'n'roll tinged with " ethnic " influences - the rhythms of Ethiopia who the guitarist is ideally imported to London after a trip to Africa with his wife - but also by the music of Mina, whose league has two bars taken from the song " A Kiss Is Too Much." In the rest of Elvis Costello gender barriers have always gone clenched in his life wrote songs with Paul McCartney, collaborated with Burt Bacharach and spent periods in which he did not hesitate to use bows instead of guitars.

With the album " When I was cruel" (" Quando ero crudele" ) was the rhythm rather than the melody , to lead Costello in the writing of the songs, a good example in this regard is the song " Spooky Girlfriend". A glance at the lyrics then leads to the song entitled "45", as the old 45-gram disc recordings of a geological era does before the advent of digital. The author, however, completely refractory to the nostalgia operations, denies looking at those years with regret and explains that he has told the story of an era that has supplied gas to generations of musicians. This is the Elvis Costello that will be in front of the spectators in Lecce, at Palazzo dei Celestini, an author who attends to the classic rock'n'roll inspirations as the best r & b and hip hop suggestions.
