After a semester of planning by Joint Cultural Program for a major concert, tickets go on sale Monday for Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe performing at Kirby Field House April 30th.
Bobbi Kerridge, the Williams Center administrative assistant, had a major role in getting the concert and stresses the fact that because the college anticipates a high demand for tickets, sales will differ from those in the past.
"Each student will only be allowed to purchase four tickets and must have their ID with them. Students also will not be allowed to line up for tickets before 4:00 p.m. with tickets going on sale at 7:00 p.m." Kerridge also emphasizes that students should plan to get their tickets right away.
"Tickets have already gone on sale in the community at Ticketron centers, and because this is such a big concert., I would encourage students not to procrastinate buying their tickets." Two thousand tickets will be set aside just for Lafayette students, 728 of them being floor seats.
Brad Hafer, chairman of the JCP subcommittee of Continuing Arts, shares Kerridge's enthusiasm about the concert "We all feel that this is going to be a great concert. The whole community is very excited. Before break we thought we had the Beastie Boys lined up to play, but they chose to play the larger Stabler Arena instead. Elvis is only touring the Northeast for two weeks and we were very lucky to get him."
Both Kerridge and Hafer also discussed the problems of getting a major concert to come to Lafayette. Besides expected scheduling and money problems, nearby Stabler Arena presents problems of attracting artists. "We have such a small seating area, many artists who come to the area would prefer to play Lehigh's Stabler Arena which seats many more," Kerridge stated.
Elvis Costello and his group the Attractions have released fourteen albums and has long been a college favorite. He has been voted best songwriter in the Rolling Stone reader's and critics poll numerous times and has toured extensively both in Europe and the United States. Some of his more popular albums include My Aim is True, Punch the Clock, This Year's Model, and his most recent Blood and Chocolate. Some of his more familiar singles include "Alison," "Pump It Up," "Everyday I Write the Book," and his duet with Daryl Hall, "The Only Flame in Town."
Nick Lowe has toured extensively with Costello's albums. Some of his more popular singles include "Teacher Teach," "Cruel to be Kind," and last year's "Half a Boy and Half a Man."
Tickets will be fourteen dollars for the floor and fifteen for bleacher seats.
