Elvis Costello canta amanhã em Vilamoura

As mágoas das vítimas do furacão Katrina, que arrasou Nova Orleães, vão ser cantadas por Elvis Costello, num espectáculo marcado para amanhã à noite no Jardim do Lake Resort, em Vilamoura. O músico britânico apresenta-se em palco com a Allen Toussaint Band & Horns with Steve Nieve, para apresentar o trabalho colectivo ‘The River in Reverse’.


Costello e Toussaint, que já tinham trabalhado juntos em dois álbuns, reencontraram-se em Nova Iorque, para darem juntos uma série de concertos de beneficência. Foi dessa união que surgiu ‘The River in Reverse’, um projecto muito aclamado pela crítica.

O cantor e compositor, cujo nome está indelevelmente associado ao punk rock e new wave dos anos 80, afirmou-se como uma voz única e original. ‘Imperial Bedroom’, de 1982 é um dos seus trabalhos mais aclamados, a que se seguiu ‘Punch the Clock’, de onde saiu o sucesso internacional ‘Everyday I write the book’ (cujo videoclip apresentava, de forma profética, sósias dos príncipes Carlos e Diana em plena crise doméstica, numa casa suburbana).

Irreverente, às vezes mesmo truculento mas sempre diversificado, Elvis Costello destacou-se mais uma vez com ‘Blood and Chocolate’, onde usou pela primeira vez o seu alter-ego ‘Napoleon Dynamite’, a que se seguiu uma longa parceria com Paul McCartney.

Além da música, Costello, actualmente casado com Diana Krall, fez ainda carreira no cinema, compôs músicas para bailado e colaborou com a cantora de ópera Anne Sophie van Otter. Em 2004, lançou o seu primeiro trabalho orquestral em grande escala, ‘Il Sogno’ e o álbum ‘Delivery Man’.

O espectáculo no Lake Resort, integrado no programa ‘Allgarve Edition’, começa às 22h00. A entrada custa 30 euros.
