In a year when most people have been focusing on his late namesake - a certain Mr Presley - Elvis Costello has been quietly getting on with what he does best, making music. OK, so he performed the dire Charles Aznavour smoocher She, but he more than erased those embarrassing memories with his latest album, When I Was Cruel, which has been acclaimed as yet another work worthy of inclusion in the mighty Costello canon.
Gigs at V2002 also showed that he can still cut the mustard live. If you're in any doubt about that, catch his Friday night show with The Imposters at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire, supported by former Squeeze man Chris Difford. It's a sort of farewell gig, as The Imposters prepare to head off to the States to headline their own gigs and support The Rolling Stones.
Oh, and Elvis is to cement his iconic status by starring in The Simpsons. All hail the King!
