Apollo's fun and Frolics

Andrew Hogg

Elvis Costello, Joan Collins, Hot Gossip and the entire Not The Nine O'Clock News team are some of the artists taking part in a charity show at the Apollo, Victoria on June 1.

Profits will go to the National Society for Mentally Handicapped Children and Adults.

Other guests will include Andy Summers of Police, Ian Dury, Chas and Dave and Neil Innes.

A MENCAP spokesman told me: "We've been working on the show since the beginning of the year. Mel Smith, who'll be directing, and Elvis Costello, have been involved right from the start."

Titled Fundamental Frolics, 1.6.81, fresh material is promised from most people involved, including new comedy sketches and new songs from Dury and Costello.

To make it more of an occasion, some artists will perform together on stage, including possibly Costello singing with Mel Smith and Dury with Chas and Dave.

Tickets, from £5 to £20, are on sale at the Apollo box office.
