Elvis Costello on tour In July, Elvis and The Imposters played festival dates in Japan and Korea. In September Elvis is scheduled to make appearances with The Imposters in Milwaukee, WI and at "Riot Fest" in Chicago. Elvis is then playing seven solo dates in California in the US in September and October under the title "2054 - The Centenary Show". Elvis has commented: "This show may contain any song I've written. Some you will know already, some are the hits of tomorrow. I'm playing this show now in the unlikely event that I'm not around to perform the songs on the appointed date. Don't be late, we're going to have a big time." Elvis is also due to appear again at the annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco. In May and June 2013 Elvis will again be touring the UK with The Imposters and "The Spectacular Spinning Songbook" a monumental game-show wheel that features 40 song-titles, including hits, rarities and very unexpected covers. He has announced 16 dates, including two nights at Symphony Hall in Birmingham and two consecutive nights at London's Royal Albert Hall. The tour also includes dates in Wales and Scotland and some seaside towns such as Blackpool, Brighton and Southend-on-Sea. See the Gigography for full details. Tickets for most venues go on sale on 7 September. In 2011 Elvis and The Imposters toured the USA and Canada. On "The Revolver Tour" part of the set-list was chosen by ”The Spectacular Spinning Songbook”. Elvis played solo dates in Europe in October and in November 2011. Shows in Belgium, Iceland, the Netherlands and Sweden were postponed due to the ill-health of Elvis' father. All but one of these (Malmo) were rescheduled. In April 2012 "The Revolver Tour" reached the West Coast of the USA, Vancouver and Windsor, Florida and North Carolina. The European leg of "The Revolver Tour" with The Imposters started in May 2012 and continued into June. He was joined onstage by various guests including The BibleCode Sundays, Russell Crowe, Chris Difford, Glenn Tilbrook, Nick Lowe, Martin Belmont, Erika Stucky and Vanessa Paradis. The final date of the UK leg of the tour in Basingstoke was cancelled due to "short term vocal fatigue and doctor's advice." This show has been rescheduled for 20 June 2013. Elvis also played three solo shows rescheduled from 2011, in the Netherlands, Sweden and Iceland which formed part of the All These Strangers Tour. Elvis played a one-off show at the Food and Wine Classic in Aspen, Colorado on 16 June. He performed for the first time with The Blue Beguilers a band comprising John McFee (who played on My Aim Is True), Davey Faragher and Pete Thomas. The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook On 5 December 2011 Hip-O records released a limited-edition box – only 1,500 numbered copies worldwide – culled from the two dates Elvis and The Imposters played at Los Angeles’ Wiltern Theatre in May 2011. The set includes a CD of 16 performances from both nights. An accompanying DVD showcases the second show on May 12 including a guest appearance from Susanna Hoffs. The box set also features a 10″ EP with an additional four songs, a 40-page hardbound book of photos and Costello’s journal entries while on tour, a 20″ x 30″ poster, a limited edition tour postcard and a commemorative card signed by Costello himself. On his own website Elvis has complained that the box set is over-priced (at around 268 US Dollars) and suggests that such a sum could be better spent on a Louis Armstrong box set. National Ransom Elvis Costello's latest album National Ransom was released on October 25 2010 internationally and November 2 2010 in the U.S, but the digital download offered on www.nationalransom.com became available on October 24 2010. It was recorded with producer T Bone Burnett in Nashville and Los Angeles over an 11 day period earlier in 2010.A short film about the making of the record is available to view online at ElvisCostello.com. Musicians include all members of The Imposters and The Sugarcanes, plus Vince Gill, Marc Ribot, Buddy Miller, and Leon Russell. Elvis told Scotland's The Herald, "The ensemble ranges from two players to nine pieces and while some songs are very intimate and quiet, others are not." The album can be purchased as mp3, flac or Apple lossless downloads in addition to CD and vinyl. Three tracks are delivered immediately when download is purchased. This version of the album excluded the Japanese/iTunes bonus track I Hope. It is now available for download. An alternate version of the title track has been posted on YouTube with an accompanying video under the title "The Return Of The Imposter". National Ransack National Ransack was released as a 7" vinyl EP on December 21, 2010 according to the National Ransom website. It contained the songs previously available digitally through www.nationalransom.com. Other news Elvis will appear on Jamey Johnson’s next album which will be a collaborative celebration of Hank Cochran’s music. Elvis and Jamey duet on “She’ll Be Back”. “Livin’ for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran” will also include appearances by Willie Nelson, George Strait, Alison Krauss,and many others, each singing a duet with Johnson. The album will come out Sept. 25 on vinyl and Oct. 16 in other formats. Elvis appears on the soundtrack album of the horror musical "Ghost Brothers of Darkland County" - a collaboration between Stephen King, John Mellencamp and T-Bone Burnett. The album will be released in both single CD and three CD format, possibly in the week commencing 12 June, via Hear Music. Elvis performed at “A Celebration of Paul Newman’s Dream,” a fundraising event scheduled for April 2 at Avery Fisher Hall at New York City’s Lincoln Center. Elvis appeared on the US TV show, The Colbert Report with Emmylou Harris and Don Fleming to talk about the Alan Lomax Archives - a vast collection of historic folk music materials. Elvis joined an All-Star Tribute To Robert Johnson At 100 back at the Apollo Theater, in Harlem, New York City on March 6 where he sang From Four Until Late Elvis joined The Roots on the Jimmy Fallon TV Show on 1 March 2012 to perform Brilliant Disguise and Fire. Elvis appeared at the first annual PEN New England Awards for Song Lyrics of Literary Excellence, on 26 February 2012, which honored Chuck Berry and Leonard Cohen. He performed with Keith Richards and lent Chuck Berry a guitar to play "Johnny B. Goode".
