Behind The Front Page

Sam Prenesti

While in Melbourne in 1985, some pillock stole Elvis Costello’s 54 Fender Telecaster. The theft caused him to play mostly acoustic guitar on his next album because he couldn’t get used to another Telecaster. Costello has now revealed that, when he toured in 1987 with The Confederates, the guitar was returned by a guy who knew the guy who stole it. Geddit? “Rather than go to the police with it, he just brought it back to me. So I now have my guitar back.” said the world’s greatest lyricist.
