High Fidelity

Elvis Costello

Chris Bohn

A muddily mixed, dour tune takes an awfully long time to get the hook: "High fidelity — can you hear me," sung with that doe-eyed mournfulness that made "I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down" so good. Another cut from Get Happy, it's backed with the far better Van McCoy song, "Getting Mighty Crowded" — proper melody, danceable beat — while the 12inch features a bonus new version of "Clowntime Is Over."
