Cow pastures

Melody Maker

London will have a new rock venue from November 5: The Red Cow in Hammersmith Road. Hardly a replacement for the Rainbow, and it's unlikely that the Who or Zeppelin will appear there for summer seasons, but it will serve an important function, in offering a regular opportunity for bands like the excellent 101ers — the best new rock band in London — Eddie & The Hot Rods, Snakes and Flip City to work out.

The 101ers have a Saturday residency at the pub, which will be run by the enterprising Dai Davies who's made such a success of the Nashville.

By the way, you can catch MM Rock/Folk winners, Deaf School at the Nashville this Saturday (November 1), and on Monday, November 17 the new Graham Bell Band will be featured there. If Bell's band has any of the energy of previous line ups like Skip Bifferty and Bell 'n' Arc they should be well worth lending an ear to.

See you there ... Oh, forgot to mention that there's free admission to the Red Cow every night of the week, while the Nashville still keeps its prices down to around £1.25.
