Get Happy!!

Elvis Costello

Kim Teverbaugh

Elvis Costello has released his fourth album for Columbia, titled Get Happy. The title is a misnomer for those who expect the contents of the songs to be a revival of spirit. It will be welcomed by Costello's fans due to the 20 songs included and 48 minutes worth of music.

It doesn't take any special talents in division to realize that to do 20 songs in 48 minutes, Costello must get in, prove his point and get out quickly. He does this with such authority that while the listener is still dealing with the message of the last song, the next tune is halfway through. Maybe 30 or 40 playings of this album would be necessary to judge exactly what he is saying and to whom.

Producer Nick Lowe has done a fine job of making the music jump out on the disc despite the length of the album's playing time. Certainly any rock fan would have some of the music's most interesting work if he has purchased, My Aim Is True, This Year's Model, Armed Forces and now Get Happy.
