| A Costello concert is an experience in itself, as the guest performances of unwavering art writer of pop aristocracy are scarce. Nevertheless, the green round was not sold out before the Hamburg Stadtpark stage. An indication, perhaps, that the master has lost a little contact with the audience, but this was after all his only concert in Germany.

| Nevertheless, Costello was launched dazzling and played anfängliehe slight sound issues with confidence. "Accidents Will Happen" — in fact, because its fine "Rude 5" — Musicians tangled in the start-up phase several times, but warmed up purred the delicate and yet powerful wheels work in a timely compactness. With Marc Ribot on lead guitar and the excellent Larry Knechtel on keyboards flanked Costello inspired soloists who were completely at home in the complex harmonies of his songs. His best drummer Pete Thomas and bassist Jerry Scheff perfected sound as a group, the loose spontaneity conjured up in the close-knit arrangements.

| These were of course no note faithful album versions, but sometimes witty and distorted reinterpretations. "The Other Side Of Summer" Costello had dylanesk / leveled folky, while "Watching The Detectives" thwarted brittle with daring tempo changes. Ever featured the playful element his entire concert, so nothing out of the usual "performances" and "Shows" had, but almost like a workshop worked. A balancing act at an open- air concert, but it speaks for Costeüos instinct that he never slipped from his audience, despite the loose reins.

| Even in this country thorny country digressions, the band did not break. "Almost Blue", always on the verge of agonizing sentimentality, Costello made the piano to an exemplary tearjerker, which he meticulously brought süffisanter announcement and millimeter accurate interpretation to the point.

| From the nostalgic melancholy he was, thank God, but then does not carry, but quickly moved up the pace again. "Veronica" from the ''Spike'' album, one of Costello's best numbers from recent times, the auditorium facilitated significant because under the open sky just prevail against other needs than in the intimacy of a smoke-filled clubs. But even this had Costello wisely considered and was the end of the official sets again step on the gas, with Marc Ribot was finally allowed to sometimes show his explosive side soloist.

| After 90 minutes at a gutaufgelegten Elvis Costello, of course, by no means final. And best of moods the master was really rightly so, because he had satisfied very elegant expectations today.
