When it comes to recasting musical idioms in his own golden-voiced, bespectacled image, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Elvis Costello — the Quentin Tarantino of erudite pop — has worn many hats. Nervy New Waver. Country Crooner. Allen Toussaint and Burt Bacharach foil. R&B belter. Classical composer. The list goes on. And over the course of his eclectic career, the Nashville-loving icon has often taken his various incarnations and endeavors to the Ryman stage — it's one of his all-time favorite venues. His rock spectacles with loyal backing band The Imposters are the stuff of legend, as are his various one-man solo appearances and country collaborations at the Mother Church. Old school 'Villians are still talking about a [[Concert 1996-08-07 Nashville|1996]] stop with The Fairfield Four 20 years after the fact. Tonight he's backed by The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, so expect another master class for the Music City history books. | |||
