Elvis Costello's new album National Ransom is scheduled for release October 5 on the Hear Music label.
It was recorded in Nashville with producer T Bone Burnett over a nine day period toward the end of February and beginning of March.
Scotland's The Herald reports that both The Sugarcanes and The Imposters appear on the album and quotes Elvis as promising "several other friends, but not necessarily as you might imagine. The ensemble ranges from two players to nine pieces and while some songs are very intimate and quiet, others are not."
Jim Lauderdale noted in a recent interview that Elvis "cut a lot of songs."
Elvis has identified "A Slow Drag With Josephine", "I Lost You" and "Jimmie Standing In The Rain" as songs from the new album when introducing them in concert.
Other songs in Elvis' recent concert repertoire which could perhaps appear on National Ransom include:
The album's title was initially reported as American Ransom.
The cover artwork is by Tony Millionaire, who also drew the cover for Secret, Profane & Sugarcane.
