Stiff Records are presenting a string of four special pre-Christmas package shows next week at London Islington Hope & Anchor, from Monday to Thursday inclusive (19-22). All the label's main artists will be featured during the series — including Ian Dury, The Damned, Larry Wallis and Wreckless Eric.
Entrance to all four gigs is free of charge, in terms of cash — but everyone is being asked to bring along a toy or game, which will then be donated to a sick child in hospital. A spokesman explained: "We are prepared to accept cash donations to the charity, but we would prefer toys."
Stiff are now working on two projects involving their package which toured Britain earlier this year — with Dury, Wallis and Eric, plus Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe. The live album, recorded during the tour, is being prepared for February release, and a 50-minute semi-documentary film of the package in action is being edited and Stiff hope to negotiate national release as well as selling it abroad.
Also being finalised is a major American tour in the New Year by a full Stiff package. The bill will be somewhat different from the recent British tour, as Costello and Lowe have now left the label, but it's likely that The Damned will join Dury, Wallis and Eric on the U.S. trek.
