Bacharach & Costello get hitched

New York Daily News

Burt Bacharach and Elvis Costello are working in concert at Radio City

Sunday's taping of the weekly PBS series Sessions at West 54th didn't come off exactly as planned.

Nearly 200 gathered at Sony's West Side Studios to hear Burt Bacharach and Elvis Costello, who appeared together last Tuesday at Radio City Music Hall. The session started late and was riddled with enough technical snafus to force the duo to perform Bacharach's "Alfie," three times and his "What the World Needs Now" twice.

At 11 p.m., a full hour after the gig was to have ended, Costello begged the audience's forgiveness and joked that "PBS is going to pay all your baby-sitting bills."

The show airs Nov. 20. No doubt with all the problems edited out.
