1) Was born in Liverpool in 1955, and his real name is Declan Patrick Aloysius MacManus.
2) Is the son of a famous big band singer called Ross MacManus – who incidentally sings “I’m A Secret Lemonade Drinker” in the old R. Whites’ Lemonade commercial.
3) Used to be a computer programmer at an Elizabeth Arden factory in West London.
4) Had a very small part in the Alan Bleasdale film No Surrender and played a really obnoxious record company type person in the Comic Strip’s The Bullshitters.
5) Is married with a son named Matthew.
6) Once got in a fight in a US hotel bar for calling legendary singer Ray Charles ‘a blind, ignorant nigger.’ He then got into trouble with his pals at Rock Against Racism – not to mention the press and his fans alike – for saying it again.
7) Has produced albums for the Specials, the Pogues and Squeeze.
8) Recorded a duet with very famous country and western singer George Jones called ‘Stranger In The House’.
9) Likes to record under aliases: as the Imposter for the singles ‘Pills & Soap’ and ‘Shipbuilding’ and the Coward Brothers (with T-Bone Burnette) on ‘People’s Limousine’.
10) Was once proclaimed by Elton John as the greatest talent of this century – long before George Michael and Nik Kershaw and …
