Too many fans in auditorium

Letters to the editors

A.M. Gillies

Sirs:

Recently, I attended Elvis Costello's performance at the Woodroffe auditorium of Algonquin College. Costello is very popular, and as the hall is designed to seat 800, I felt lucky to have tickets. The show itself was good. Costello was warmly received by over 2,000 enthusiastic fans. It was only the calibre of the performance that could have appeased those who were deprived. Approximately 2,000 people stuffed into an auditorium designed to seat 800 people means at least 1,000 people too many. Only a confirmed masochist would commend Treble Clefs handling of what could have been a memorable evening of fine music. Even a masochist might draw the line at being caught in a potential fire trap.
