British female star? You know we're suckers for this sort of Billy Paul stuff. Julie Covington? She's not in ''Rock Follies''. Well, how many people would even know that Julie Covington was in ''Rock Follies''? Give us some credit. Linda Lewis? This goes from sort of a weird funk to a black English Joni Mitchell. Joan Armatrading... We should have known that. She's great because she's unpredictable. Some nice jazz in there, and she can sing. It's one of those albums you keep next to a Lou Reed album to show people you're coming from both places. This should be selling — but then again it's not "Blue Bayou." It needs one hit. Phoebe Snow is less inventive, but she did have "Poetry Man." I'd rather hear this than a traditional country-style female folk singer. | British female star? Became a Flo & Eddie favorite during our New Wave special? (In unison) Elvis Costello! Wow! It's wonderful! We picked him. Yeah — with 900 other people. But we were early right? When you brought it over, we were right there. He's a looming star. Pick up Elvis Costello — you won't be sorry. The guy is thinking — it's really good music. You can't categorize good music. Heavily touted New York group? Blondie? Talking Heads. I like this. They do "1-2-3 Red Light" in concert? That's wonderful. "Psycho Killer" — this is excellent. Lets hear another cut. They're not screamers — they're just sort of wimps. There's something appealing about this to me. Did they tour with Bryan Ferry? I can see why this would work on a Bryan Ferry tour — and only on a Bryan Ferry tour. I'd be surprised if anyone hears this. Sid Vicious is going to waste these guys. This is the new Sparks. "Uh Oh Love Comes To Town," is not unlike the Shakers. (Flo) Personally, I think it's a collector's item. (Eddie) I'd give it more credit than that. | Heavily touted New York group? Blondie? One of the biggest pushes of the year? You've seen the billboards everywhere, eh...The Babys! They sound great. Distinctive Alan Macmillan string sound. Ron Nevison production. I really like this record already. They're so cute. They sound like they went in to the studio and made a record without caring if they could play it on stage. I think they're going to be real big. By the time this issue comes out, "Isn't it time" will be a huge hit, right? (Ed. — Right). This is gorgeous. This is the kind of record I like. Even if it's more the background singers' record than The Babys'. Sounds like very lush Bad Company. This is sophisticated, good pop music. Everyone's going to like it. Sid won't. Sid'll hate The Babys. | One of the biggest pushes of the year? You've seen the billboards everywhere, eh...The Babys! They sound great. Distinctive Alan Macmillan string sound. Ireland's hottest new group? The Boomtown Rats, huh? The Good Rats will be up against them for the name. Springsteen song? Might as well be. Sounds nice. It's recorded great. This is the single, "Lookin' Out For Number One..." "Wipe Out" intro. This is power. Great words! Great record! No one in America is going to hear this. You say they might, but no DJ in America will play this. I'll bet you right now you'll never see this hit the Top 200 (Ed. — You win!) This is so good I want my copy before it's a cutout. | Ireland's hottest new group? The Boomtown Rats, huh? The Good Rats will be up against them for the name. Springsteen song? Might as well be.
