Elvis was in his element as The Beloved Entertainer, complete with three-piece suit, titfer and a big-wheel for audience members to spin for song requests, some of whom end up dancing on-stage with his go-go girls. During the 40 minutes of encores, he circulated among the stalls, crooning to one lady, dancing with another, snapped with another by her old man. It was a terrific show covering all the crowd-pleasing bases, while also veering off down roads less travelled.
The sound, a little murky to begin with, improved as the night went on, and on. After two hours, he closed with "Tramp The Dirt Down," to massive approval. As well as the stalwart singing, sometimes without a mic, there was Elvis' underrated guitar-playing and sophisticated, witty patter, not to mention his top-notch accompaniment. Value for money all round.

You want to get happy, try Elvis. "Lipstick Vogue," "Heart Of The City," "I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down," "Radio, Radio," and that was just the first four songs in a blistering set. The one-time new wave grudge-bearer hit his one-time home with song-choice spins of chance rather than a structured setlist, and Elvis kept up an astonishing pace for two hours, demonstrating what a fantastic sound he and The Imposters can generate from four basic components.
Most of the classics were present and correct, including a poignant rendition of "Tramp The Dirt Down," in the city where its subject matter meant the most. Other highlights included "Man Out Of Time" and "Almost Blue," before an extra-time hat-trick of "Everyday I Write The Book," "Pump It Up" and "Peace, Love And Understanding."
