Discazo para los amantes del folk, del rock, de My Morning Jacquett, de Elvis Costello, etc. Lost On The River: The New Basement Tapes acaba de arrebatar la primera plaza de mis discos del año a Lucinda Williams. Bueno, al menos han quedado empatados, para ser más precisos. Y es que el proyecto era inimaginable cuando se dijo que Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens Taylor Goldsmith, Jim James y Marcus Mumford se iban a unir en un disco para interpretar temas de Dylan inéditos que procedían justamente de aquellas famosas Basement Tapes -inéditos de los que Dylan ahora lanza su nueva entrega de Bootleg Series-. Pues lo que uno se imaginaba se ha hecho realidad. Por lo menos, para mí. Después, evidentemente, cada uno opinará como le de la gana.

La producción de T Bone Burnett es, como siempre, excelente, y cada artista aporta su propia personalidad a su canción sin que las de los demás destiñan. Así, el disco se hace ameno, envolvente, dinámico. Suena añejo y contemporáneo sin caer en la burda trampa de lo vintage de pacotilla.

La aventura empezó cuando Burnett fue contactado por el editor de Dylan con respecto a una caja de letras escritas a mano que se había encontrado y que databan de la época de los Basement Tapes. No sabían que hacer con ellas y a Burnett se le iluminó el cerebro y contactó a los arriba mencionados. El resultado fueron 40 pistas grabadas y solo 20 incluidas en el presente álbum.

Un disco que desde la primera escucha te cautiva y a la siguiente ya te atrapa. Mención especial sobre todo a los temas interpretados por Rhiannon y Costello, posiblemente los que le otorgan más calor a las composiciones. Jim James moldea los cortes a su incomparable estilo sonando a My Morning Jacquett sin ningún pudor, y en cuanto a Marcus Mumford… hubiese sido mejor llamar a los Avett Brothers, simplemente por ser más auténticos y mejores en este estilo.

Lo repito: si te gustan Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens (Carolina Chocolate Drops), Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Marcus Mumford (Mumford & Sons) o Dylan, este es tu disco.
