Punch The Clock

Elvis Costello

Ethlie Ann Vare

Calling this Costello's best record would elicit debate; he's done so much good work. But it is certainly becoming his most successful record, with the single "Everyday I Write the Book" now Costello's first chart hit. Goodness knows this influential rocker deserves it. There are some fine songs here, unusually rousing music (thanks to TKO Horns and the Afrodasak Singers) and, all in all, a wonderful, realized performance from an eccentric and creative artist.
