For those Bruce Springsteen-Southside Johnny-Graham Parker R'N'B fans, there are two albums well worth your attention. Parker's backup band, the Rumour has recorded one of the tightest debuts in a while and recall the Band of Big Pink days. Their album is entitled Max and is an unqualified success.
The other album is an English import on Stiff Records by a new artist named Elvis Costello. The album is My Aim is True and it is a killer. If you like the above albums (especially Graham Parker), you'll love Elvis. Owing much to Buddy Holly, Elvis Costello tears through 12 songs (11 of them lasting between 1:20 and 2:30) including standouts "Miracle Man" and "Red Shoes." Columbia currently has the inside track on U.S. distribution but if you're interested you can pick up the import version at the Plastic Fantastic record store in Bryn Mawr. A bargain at any price!
