This Year's Elvis — one of the highlights of the Open Air Theatre summer concerts was Elvis Costello's sold-out performance on July 24. The now-amiable star's two-hour set inducted three lengthy encores.
In contrast to last summer, this year's concert season at SDSU's Open Air Theatre has been very successful. After a slow 1981 season, the theater brought in some top name acts during its 1982 season.
This summer, the theater has hosted Jimmy Buffet, George Benson, Toto, Elvis Costello, Robin Williams. Jimmy Cliff and Peter Tosh. All have drawn sell-out or near-capacity crowds.
Scheduled in the coming weeks are James Taylor (Aug. 27) and Emmy Lou Harris (Sept. 18). Both shows have the potential to fill the 4,350-seat theater and there is a possibility more shows will be added through mid-October.
Don Chadwick, program advisor for to the OAT, is pleased with the current season and is looking forward to finishing the year with 25 shows.
