Elvis Costello and his band, The Imposters, have announced their 2017 "Imperial Bedroom & Other Chambers" concert tour dates.
It will begin June 3 in Berkeley and conclude July 25 in Providence, Rhode Island. The tour includes three California dates, including a June 5 San Diego performance at Jacobs Music Center’s Copley Symphony Hall. All 23 North American tour dates appear below.
The concert trek will find Costello revisiting his landmark 1982 album, Imperial Bedroom, as well as other songs from throughout his career. This is the second leg of the tour, which began last year.
"We never intended to recite this book from cover to cover," Costello noted in a statement released Monday. "Listen to our new arrangement of 'Tears Before Bedtime,' it gets straight to the real meaning of that song, the way we hear and feel it today.
"Back in 1982, I might have been a step or two ahead of our crowd in the tragic, romantic stakes but I sense that they've all caught up with me now."
Two of the members of The Imposters — keyboardist Steve Nieve and drummer Pete Thomas — were members of Costello’s original band, The Attractions, which performed on the Imperial Bedroom album. They were also on hand when the original Imperial Bedroom tour stopped at the SDSU Open Air Theatre in the summer of 1982.
The Imposters’ lineup is completed by bassist and backing singer Davey Faragher. For this tour, backing vocalists Kitten Kuroi and Yah Zarah are also on board.
Tickets for the general public go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at ticketmaster.com and by phone at (800) 745-3000.
Ticket prices have not yet been released for Costello’s San Diego concert. However, tickets for his June 4 Los Angeles concert — which may give a reasonable indication of prices for his San Diego show — are price from $45 to $99 each, plus service charges.
A Costello fan club ticket pre-sale begins Tuesday, followed by a Live Nation pre-sale on Thursday.
