Elvis plays Civic Wednesday

Santa Cruz Sentinel

New music kingpin Elvis Costello and his band the Attractions perform Wednesday night at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium (7:30 p.m.).

Generally recognized as one of the premier songwriters of the '80s, Costello's music runs the gamut from punk to new wave to country and western.

Among his numerous hits are such tunes as "Alison," "Watching the Detectives," "I Don't Want to Go to Chelsea" and "Radio, Radio."

The date is a warm-up gig for Costello's West Coast tour in support of his latest Columbia album, Imperial Bedroom.

Advance tickets (they're going fast) may be purchased at the Civic Box Office and all BASS outlets.
